Bulbbul is released on Netflix during the corona pandemic when people are locked in their homes and facing the boredom too. This is a horror movie until you watch it.
I watched bulbbul this Monday expecting as a horror movie but after ending the movie this movie is something else that more focuses on the state of the women in the society, child marriage, male dominance, malpractice, and intolerance which is all described with the medium of a horror movie.
The story of bulbbul revolves around child marriage where a little girl is married to a mature aged man but the girl is attached more with the little brother of the man with whom she is married. There is a story of a mysterious witch that lives in the woods who prey on men. After some years when the little girl and the boys grow older, the killings of men begin again by a witch, then boy suspects events and why the witch is killing them and is this really any witch and the reasons behind those killings are shown. I can spoil this movie for you but this is enough for you to decide watching the movie or not.
When you watch bulbbul the events that will take place are so predictable it's like a bedtime story of children but with a dark twist.
The direction is average the world of 1880 is created but not able to adopt the culture of that timeline the story created in that era is far more modern than it was really, so storytelling is not realistic enough.
The things that can impress one are acting performances, the way characters are stylized and the visuals that are colorful and make you feel like you are watching a graphic novel with vibrant visuals.
SO, I recommend Bulbbul if you are a fan of graphic suspense novel, bedtime stories, and a superhero movie, yes it is a superhero movie too.
